PupCulture - Issue #5 Traveling with Your Dog: Our Cape Cod Weekend 🐾

Hey PupCulture Pack!

We just got back from an amazing weekend getaway to Cape Cod with Winston and Charlie — and wow, what an adventure! In this issue, we’re recapping the trip and sharing everything we packed in our dogs’ weekend bags to keep them comfy, safe, and stylish on the road. Plus, we’ll dive into why we think bringing your pup along on vacation makes all the difference.

Let’s get into it!

Why a Pet Car Seat is a Must-Have for Every Dog Parent šŸ¾šŸš—

A pet car seat isn’t just about comfort — it’s about safety. In a sudden stop or accident, an unsecured dog can be seriously injured, or even injure others in the car. A proper pet car seat keeps your pup secure, reduces driver distraction, and can even help with car anxiety by giving them a cozy, elevated spot to enjoy the ride.

It’s basically a seatbelt, a travel bed, and peace of mind all in one — and your pup deserves nothing less.

We use the K&H Bucket Booster Pet Seat, and Winston gives it paws way up. It’s padded, sturdy, and sheds minimal fur—plus, the cover is machine-washable (because let’s face it, muddy paws are inevitable).

What’s in Our Weekend Bag 🧳🐾

Traveling with Winston and Charlie means packing for a small Frenchie army. Winston’s especially partial to his denim jacket (he calls it his ā€œfashion armorā€) and Charlie insists on taking his favorite squeaky toy everywhere — no compromise there.

Here’s our must-have list for any weekend getaway:

Grooming: Wipes for quick cleanups, and no-rinse shampoo for those times when a bath just isn’t practical. Because Frenchie wrinkles deserve to stay fresh, even on the go.

Food: We keep it simple with just kibble — no refrigeration needed, making mealtime easy and stress-free. And of course, we pack a collapsible food bowl and a travel sippy water bottle to keep the pups hydrated wherever we roam.

Clothes: Matching Lucy & Co Summer themed ā€œMatch Pointā€ harnesses for ultimate style points, bucket hats for that extra swagger, and denim jackets for nights out when the temperature drops. Because who says pups can’t dress to impress?

Pet Stroller: Since Charlie is still recovering, the stroller lets him join the fun while keeping his steps low and safe during his healing period. Plus, the TAVO Pet Stroller is the ultimate dog parent accessory.

Comfort items: Their own dog beds (so they always have a familiar spot to crash) and a couple of favorite toys each — a little piece of home to make any place feel cozy.

Why Do Humans Bring Their Dogs On Vacation? ā¤ļø

Taking Winston and Charlie along on trips isn’t just about having a furry travel buddy — it’s about the whole experience. Dogs bring an extra layer of joy, comfort, and connection that makes vacations even more memorable.

  • Emotional connection: There’s nothing like sharing new places and adventures with your best friend by your side.

  • Exploring together: Dogs are the best adventure partners — they make you slow down, smell the roses (or salty ocean air), and see the world through fresh eyes.

  • Less guilt, more joy: Bringing your pup along means no ā€œleave-the-dog-at-homeā€ guilt — plus, you get to make new memories together instead of apart.

  • Stress relief: Studies show spending time with pets lowers stress — and vacations should be all about relaxing, right?

  • Making memories: Vacations with your dog create stories, snapshots, and moments you’ll cherish forever.

For us, having Winston and Charlie on this trip turned an ordinary weekend into something truly special — and we hope it inspires you to bring your pup along on your next getaway.

Our Favorite Spots in Cape Cod 🐾🌊

Cape Cod was an absolute dream for Winston, Charlie, and us — a perfect blend of fresh air, beautiful beaches, and charming towns. Here are some of our top spots that any pup-loving traveler should check out:

  • Blue Water Resort: (Yarmouth) Our home base for the trip — pet-friendly, comfy, and just steps from the beach. Perfect for pups and their humans alike. Blue Water is part of the Red Jacket Resorts family, which goes all out for dog lovers. In October, they host Barktober, a month-long celebration of our furry friends! ✨ We also have a special perk for our readers: 15% off lodging + a welcome gift with code RJRSTAY → Book Now

  • Chatham Fish Pier Market: We grabbed a lobster roll here and it was amazing—classic New England style with mayo, fresh and perfectly chilled. Plus, the pups loved watching the fishing boats come in.

  • Hyannis Main Street: A lively strip filled with shops, restaurants, and outdoor patios. Lots of dog-friendly spots to sit, eat, and people-watch.
